My Road ID spoke for me twice last summer when I was in a bike accident. I was out riding along a local route, when a car turned directly into me. I hit hard, sliding over the trunk and then sliding another 8 feet on gravel. When the emergency responders arrived, I was conscious, but not really 'with it'. They got all my information from my Road ID, including my severe allergy to morphine.
When I arrived at the hospital, somehow the allergy information was not transferred properly to the ER staff. They were about to give me a morphine drip for the pain of my fractured ankle, when someone noticed my bright yellow Road ID band on my wrist. As soon as they saw the morphine allergy alert, the IV was stopped.
I believe my Road ID helped save my life that day. Aside from a newfound fear of falling, I'm all healed up and good as new. I just wish I could say the same for my favorite Twin Six cycling jersey!
