Last Monday, I was on mile 18 of a 21 mile ride. With the green light and in my aero bars at 22 mph a car turned directly into me. I had no time to react. I flew over the hood of the car. The EMT’s and police were there in less than a minute and I was checked out. My Ankle ID provided the officer all the information he needed! I never run or ride without it. Road ID should be a mandatory piece of equipment for all athletes.
Update: The driver had insurance; my bike shop did a phenomenal job repairing my bike. I completed the race 5 days later – not as fast as I wanted, but all in one piece.
